A.J. Batista
A. J. Batista is a partner in the firm and his practice is concentrated in family law, real estate and land use and general civil litigation. While Mr. Batista handles all types of family matters, he has distinguished himself in handling complex matrimonial cases where client’s assets are valued in the multi-millions and are located throughout the world. In addition to his family practice, Mr. Batista is also the chief litigation partner representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants in personal injury, construction and general tort claims. He has bench and jury trial experience before the Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division, Chancery Division, Tax Court, Appellate Division, Office of Administrative Law, and numerous Municipal Courts throughout the State. Mr. Batista also represents borrowers, purchasers, sellers, investors, developers, lenders, landlords, tenants and business users in the acquisition, financing, development, sale, leasing and management of real estate.
Mr. Batista graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Government. He then attended the Seton Hall University Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1997. Following graduation, A.J. began his legal career at the firm of Jones Day Reavis & Pogue in Los Angeles, California. Later, A.J. joined the California internet-based startup Digital Entertainment Network (“DEN”) as Manager of Business Affairs where he participated in drafting, negotiating and signing of various television and music related talent, intellectual property acquisition and participated in the company’s financing rounds. Mr. Batista participated in creating DEN’s COPPA compliance measures and successfully argued before the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland protecting property rights from Cyber-squatters.
In 2001, Mr. Batista returned to his home State of New Jersey. A. J. is admitted to the New York, New Jersey, and United States Supreme Court Bars. He is a Founding Member of the Portuguese-American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey. He is also a member of the New York, New Jersey, and Essex County Bar Associations, as well as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He is an active participant in local politics and has acted as campaign attorney and campaign manager for both Municipal and State elections.
